INTRODUCTION: Why does the Philippines Need               the K-12 Education System?

Filipinos are known to be competitive in the international community. However, our current education system hinders us from becoming even more competitive.
Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, the education system of the Philippines was enhanced from the ten years of basic education to a 12-year program through an initiative called the K-12 Education Plan sponsored by the Department of Education.
The implementation of the K-12 plan in the Philippine Basic Education Curriculum is the key to our nation’s development. Though the government faces many problems as it implements the program over the course of several years, it is a necessary improvement since increasing the quality of our education is critical to our nation's success.

K-12 Education Will Help Filipinos Gain a Competitive Edge

  • Though Filipinos are known to be competitive in the international community, our current education system hinders us in becoming more competitive among other countries. The K-12 education plan offers a solution to that problem.
However, it is undeniable that there will be problems that arise as we implement the program, which could include a lack of budget, classrooms, school supplies, and teachers. That said, the long-term effects of K-12 education will be very beneficial to us Filipinos.
Therefore, we must support the K-12 educational plan to help improve our educational system and our economy. Remember that change in our society starts with education.

                                          BRING BACK HOME ECONOMICS

In 2003, Jennifer Grossman wrote an opinion piece for The New York Times titled Food for Thought (and for Credit) with the opening sentence “Want to combat the epidemic of obesity? Bring back home economics.” That thought seemed to simmer for a while and then in 2011, Professor Helen Zoe Viet wrote another opinion piece for the same paper titled Time to Revive Home Ec. In between, in May 2010, a commentary appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association titled “Bring Back Home Economics Education” (Lichtenstein & Ludwig, 2010). Since that time reaction to these articles and additional articles have appeared in the popular press and on the Web arguing for the return of home economics as a school subject.

  • Bringing back the Home Economics as a subject is important based who writes this article. They want to bring back Home Economics because there’s increasing of obesity that gets their attention badly, so they want to solve this big issue. Obesity can cause such as diabetes, and heart disease and to combat obesity Home Economics is one of the best way. Cooking is very important in each of us to prepare our own food or in our families. Cooking healthy foods is one of the best solution to have a healthy body with proper exercise. Lack of ability to cook is one of the reason why is there increasing of obesity because they can’t cook their own food so they eat outside their house. The four articles stated that cooking was lost skill and home economic courses were needed to teach us how to cook healthy foods. Teaching home economics with new curriculum is not just teaching us how to prepare foods but how to cope with the ups and downs of family life. Another reason why Home Economics need to bring back is because there are foods made cheaply outside which is not healthy because it is a heavily processed.

Feminists Killed Home Economics. Now They Should Bring It                                Back—for Boys and Girls. 👦👧

"As a radical feminist, I am here addressing the enemy,” activist Robin Morgan told the American Home Economics Association convention in 1972. She believed that home ec had turned women into “a limp, gibbering mass of jelly waiting for marriage” and urged educators to level with their female students about how consignment to the home is central to “the economic bigotry against women.” She then invited the home economists to join the battle against gendered domestic education, but warned that the women’s movement was “going to win in any event.”

  • As a women, we're  required to have a skills in cooking. But now, Home Economics bringing back to teach not only to those females but also in males to knowledge them how to cook and otherwise tend to the well-being of spouses and children. It is most said that Home Economics courses meant to improve woman's skills in cooking, they also said it is needed to reinforced attitudes entrenched since the dawn of the industrialized age. Middle class white men's destinies is to be professionals while middle class women's duties is to provide the needs of males to make them comfortable. Over the past half century, there are many count numbers of stay-at-home fathers and it's been tripled last 20 years in year 2014. A census study results to an increasing of  spending men's hours with children. This issue has been slow to change about emasculation, where mens take the reaponsibilities of what should females do, but then we still code females. Male's obligations is to earn money.
